YOUR MECHANIC

Hi — I’m Chris

If you book OnTrack, I’m the one who turns up. It’s just me: tools in the bag, bike upside down on your path or in the yard. Same person who gets talked into a scramble on a day off.

Chris, the OnTrack Cycling mechanic, scrambling on rock
That’s me. Off the tools, still on a hill.

I’m a fully trained cycle technician, taught to high-street workshop standards. I started OnTrack because I got tired of the idea that you have to trail a bike across town and leave it for days. Most jobs don’t need that.

I’ll do a free M-Check first — five or ten minutes, looking over brakes, gears, wheels, the usual. Then I’ll say what I’d actually bother fixing, what can wait, and what it costs in labour. Parts are extra. I don’t start until you’re happy.

If something isn’t worth doing, I’ll tell you. I’d rather you spend the money on a ride out than on a job that won’t help.

E-bikes, quickly

Mechanical work on e-bikes is fine — punctures, brakes, gears, chain, the same stuff as any other bike. Battery and mount fitting is £45 labour. Limited electrical work where necessary.

Happy to do

  • Punctures, tubes and tyres
  • Brakes, gears, wheels, chain
  • The free M-Check every time
  • E-bike mechanical work
  • E-bike battery and mount fitting
  • Limited electrical work where necessary
  • A straight answer, even if it’s “leave it”

Not for me

  • Cutting or modifying frames and forks
  • Work you didn’t ask for
  • Guessing — I’ll show you what’s going on

Based in Newcastle. I cover the usual spots — Jesmond, Heaton, the coast, and I get out towards the Wall when I can. More on areas, how a visit works, or the short about page.
